For more than 150 years, P.E.O. has been about women supporting women. Through six philanthropies and the P.E.O. Foundation, P.E.O. has helped more than 132,000 women pursue their educational goals, providing approximately $490 million in educational assistance.

P.E.O. International History
P.E.O. began on January 21, 1869, when seven visionary young women founded the Sisterhood at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Their desire for a stronger bond of friendship grew into a philanthropic organization dedicated to celebrating and educating women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans and the support of Cottey College, a nationally ranked, fully accredited, independent, liberal arts and sciences college for women located in Nevada, Missouri, since 1927 and offers baccalaureate degrees in a variety of majors. Cottey College welcomes women from around the world, and motivates each other to achieve their highest aspirations.
Today, P.E.O. includes approximately 187,000 women in more than 5,400 chapters throughout the United States and Canada.
North Dakota P.E.O. History
P.E.O. came to North Dakota in 1906 with the assistance of Winona Reeves, Organizer of Supreme Chapter. Chapters A in Valley City and B in Dickinson became the state's first P.E.O. chapters.
The North Dakota State Chapter held its first convention in 1915. Today, nearly 1,600 members in 47 chapters across the state continue the P.E.O. tradition of friendship, education and women supporting women.
